Philips Medical Systems is one of the three leading providers of information technology in the healthcare arena. It has a strong presence in imaging, cardiac-IT and patient monitoring area. TekPlus believes Philips is taking all the right steps to increase its market shares in these markets by 1) continuous improvements, enhancements and value-add to its products, 2) its full-fledged expansion into healthcare-IT market with its alliance with Epic Systems and 3) its strategy to expand its activities in rapidly growing Asian markets such as China. However, focus and execution are key words and if Philips fails to do either of this sufficiently it will not deliver on the above – which would put the company in a very negative position. This would be especially true if it cannot create a mind-share in the HIS market.
