McKesson Information Solutions is a division of the 170-year-old McKesson Corporation. The company as a whole has been very dependent on its pharmaceutical solutions business and is seeking to venture into new segments like medical-surgical solutions and IT. It has done this well for the Information Solutions business, which after recent restructuring is now classified in the McKesson Provider Technologies segment. Financially McKesson Information Solutions is growing at a steady pace and is well positioned to take benefit of the changing environment in healthcare that inspires numerous healthcare organisations to use IT to improve delivery of care. The company has a strong line of solutions and services that span across virtually every provider segment (from IDNs, to hospitals to physicians to home care). McKesson’s current instinct to push into right solutions at the right time is apparent in its push for end-to-end medication management. The time is right for such solutions amid all the pressure from various organisations (IOM, Leapfrog Group, the Government).
